Plans for 2010

Sunday, May 2, 2010

It’s a holiday weekend here in the UK but our planned start to the camping season has been postponed because of the rain and cold. We’re not too worried though as we have some great plans for this year’s camping season.

In addition to weekends away the main events this year will be 9 days touring in Brittany, northern France, and four days at the Latitude festival in Suffolk.

Preparations

We took the bus in to Jack’s Garage a few weeks ago for a long list of work on the engine, fuel tank and gearbox. We the van up this weekend and the engine bay is looking great. Jack’s have rebuilt the engine and painted out the bay. The gear stick rattle has gone and after all these years we now get heat in the cab! Mechanically we’re fully sorted for a great Summer on the road.

Brittany (28 June- 4 July)

For a long time we’ve wanted to take the bus over to continental Europe and this year we’re finally doing it. We’ve decided to take the ferry from Portsmouth to St. Malo in Brittany. Like our tour to West Wales last September we expect to search out quiet rural campsites and great local produce. Cheese and wine could feature heavily.

Latitude (Thur 15th to Sun 18th July)

Another first this year is that we’ve decided to finally get around to doing a festival. We’ve chosen Latitude for it’s eclectic programme and slightly more genteel reputation. We’re looking forward everything from Empire of the Sun to the Q&A with film director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, United 93, Green Zone). As it’s our first time camping at a festival we’re giving some thought to what equipment we might need. Rain and mud are our main fear so the Wellington boots will be packed, but we’re also wondering about how to power our phones etc. Any tips and advice will be gratefully received!

We can’t wait to get back on the road!
